Happy Sunday! Week 2 of Real Life has come to an end, and I spent the majority of my weekend on the couch nursing a backache I got from falling in the shower. Life has been super busy, so there’s not as much to report — I’m still figuring out this work-life balance thing. I love writing this newsletter and am trying to come up with something to say a few times this month, but life! has! been! so! whack! So please bear with me.
Bing Bing Dim Sum
🥟 Matt and I went to Bing Bing Dim Sum on Passyunk last weekend, and we loved it. We also love their sister restaurants in Fishtown, Cheu and nunu. We split the Spicy Sichuan Cucumbers, Scarlet Dumplings, and some soup dumplings, but the Cheesesteak Bao were the standout. And I don’t even like when foods imitate a cheesesteak.
Overnight oats and yogurt
🫐 Lunch is served at the office every day — which is the best perk ever — so breakfast is the only meal of the day I get the chance to make for myself. With my 9–5 life in full swing, I usually make oats or a yogurt parfait the night before to enjoy either on the train or at my desk. As soon as I finish breakfast, I begin counting down the hours until lunch. Work is great! My coworkers are super nice, and there is never a dull moment in the office. I even got the chance to work in the kitchen (for those of you who are out of the loop, I work at a catering company) as part of our cross-training last week which was fun, although I’m not sure that was the intention of the exercise. Anyway, more on overnight oats here.
Summer reads
📚 I love taking the train because it forces me to read. I’m trying to read three books this month in order to catch up on my Goodreads goal for 2022. Strangers & Cousins by Leah Hager Cohen was good, The Editor by Steven Rowley was great, but Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn was so so so entertaining. I’ve never enjoyed fiction like this in my entire life, so please share your book recs!
Ooni pizza oven update!
🔥 Last month, I shared my family’s first attempt of the season to make pizza in our Ooni. We tried again yesterday, and I must say that the bottom of our pies were crispier (in a better way) compared to our previous attempt. The crusts were too crispy this time — basically burnt. I put banana peppers (an unsung hero of summer cuisine) and red onions on mine and then drizzled hot honey on top once it came out of the oven.
Hope your back is feeing better….
Thrilling read thank you
