Happy first Friday of April, dear readers. TV is top of mind this week because I’ve been watching a lot of it lately. With graduation approaching, I’m only working one day a week now — very grateful to my bosses for letting this happen — and have more free time than I’ve had in the past ten weeks. So, I’ve turned to TV.
And what’s TV without snacks?
🥨 Snacks
I’m a snacker. It’s in my blood. My dad likes to walk around the house with a bag of chips. My mom eats popcorn almost every night. I am a member of the Dessert Every Night Club. Snacks are important in a busy college student’s life, but oftentimes our options are limited when we have to rely on dining halls and meal swipes. Luckily, I have the privilege of not being on a meal plan because I live off campus, which means my snack cabinet is overflowing. A few recent faves:
Absurd Snacks, founded by one of my closest babes, Maeve
Trader Joe’s Spicy Chakri Mix
Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Covered Powerberries
Popcorn topped with nutritional yeast, garlic powder, and salt — don’t yuck my yum.
Trader Joe’s Sea Salt & Turbinado Sugar Dark Chocolate Almonds (best frozen)
And of course we have to talk about what I’ve been watching.
👩🍳 Julia
Honestly, I didn’t have high hopes about the newest foray into Julia Child’s life. Plenty versions are out there! But there’s just something special about an HBO-produced snapshot of her life. Julia is my new comfort show, and I’m a little bugged new episodes are only released once a week. The episodes that are out so far cover the early days of The French Chef, and Sarah Lancashire plays a darling Julia. (Side note: Buying a subscription to HBO Max for myself for Christmas was such a good idea. It made me a TV person.)
🌎 Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown
And another HBO find: Parts Unknown. I must admit that I began engaging with all of Anthony Bourdain’s work after his death, so I’m sure this isn’t breaking news. Bourdain is refreshing in the sense that he did not give a f*ck, but warm in the ways he interacted with people. Blah, blah, blah, you already know this. I particularly enjoyed the episode on Peru because 1) chocolate and 2) Ripert.
I have a pretty exciting weekend ahead, but you’ll have to stick around for Monday’s newsletter to hear about it. As always, thanks for reading, and hit the heart up top if you liked it (you don’t need to create an account, and it helps me know what readers are liking).
Enjoy your exciting weekend
