Happy Friday, friends! Sorry to keep you hanging about my eventful weekend — more on that below.
On Sunday night I tried my best to put something together to send out on Monday morning, but it just wasn’t happening. I often repeat the mantra “quality over quantity” to myself whenever self-doubt creeps in, so we’re going to start applying that to this newsletter as well. Perhaps we’ll do more research, like this! Or develop recipes! Or talk about more pressing issues that have come up in my classes! Any ideas? Let me know.
I thought I’d reintroduce myself since there are some new faces here — very exciting! I’m Claudia, I’m about to graduate from The New School in NYC, and I’m very passionate about eating. If you’re interested in learning more about me and my newsletter, here ya go. On Fridays I share a few things that ~sparked joy~ during my week (usually food related). Here are this week’s things.
🎵 The opera
On Sunday I took myself to the Metropolitan Opera to see Eugene Onegin. And it was AMAZING! During my sophomore year of college I took a class on Alexander Pushkin, who wrote the source material for this Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky show. My younger sister has been studying opera for years now, but I’ve never seen her perform. How? I’m not sure, but now I can say I’ve been to an opera! It really blew me away. Highly recommend.
🍌 Grilled veggies
Friday’s weather was beautiful so I walked all the way to the TJ’s in Kips Bay to get my groceries for the coming week. I was sweating by the time I got back to my apartment, but nevertheless stood in front of the stove grilling veggies on my cast iron skillet. This recipe for grilled veggies was on repeat last summer. Highly recommend topping them with banana peppers.
I’m home this weekend for Easter, and hope I’m tapped to help in the kitchen. We’re making one of these cakes to celebrate my dad’s birthday while my sister and I are home — looking forward to licking canned frosting off a spoon.
