Happy Friday, everyone! I’m heading out of town this weekend to close out my spring break (eats recap coming your way, of course). I had quite a busy week full of homework, socializing, and school work, so I’m pretty exhausted as I write this newsletter. I almost didn’t send something out this morning, but I know I’ll want to look back on what I’m sharing today.
This week’s things are dedicated to my parents and our adventure this past Tuesday. We walked around Lower Manhattan and then wandered through Central Park before sunset. And, of course, we ate. It’s what we do best.
First up was Katz’s. I had never been, but I walk by it almost every day. There was no line to get in, so we waltzed right up to the counter and ordered our sandwiches and soups. And, boy was it delicious.
We got chicken noodle and matzo ball soup and tons of pickles. Mom got brisket, Dad got their famous pastrami, and I went for my beloved bologna.
Next up was Russ & Daughters down the block. We waited in line for quite a while, but it was worth it. Dad and I split a black & white cookie, and Mom got some babka to give to a friend.
The main event of the day was a visit to the Tenement Museum. Mom has been wanting to go ever since I moved to New York, so in an attempt to cross things off our NYC bucket list before graduation, I suggested we finally pay it a visit. And it was super cool! Definitely a great way to spend a spring day. After that, we went walking through Soho and Nolita. I treated Mom and Dad to overpriced coffee, which felt very adult.
Mom always finds us a great dinner spot — this time we had Turkish food uptown at a restaurant called Agora. Each of us got a different lamb dish and split a plate of hummus and stuffed grape leaves (a Langella mainstay snack).
We were too stuffed for dessert, but I chowed down on some Irish potatoes and Mom’s homemade soda bread before hitting the hay. Thank you, Mom and Dad! I <3 you!
And thank you for reading Party of One! Please feel free to share with your favorite food-minded friends. Your support means so much!
Look to the cookie Claudia, look to the cookie!
