I’m writing this from the comfort of my parents’ kitchen table, which is my desk of choice when I visit home. ICYMI, yesterday was Easter — hence the visit home. This chapter of my life is full of lots of lasts, so today I’m reflecting on my last Easter of college. 🥺🥺🥺
I got home on Thursday evening and went straight to my local Whole Foods — nothing says welcome home like your favorite grocery store. Nothing exciting to report. Just boring hot bar food.
On Friday, I put some tuna on crackers and called it lunch. Cooking in my parents’ kitchen is what I think being on Chopped is like. Lots of random ingredients, but somehow they work together, creating a meal that makes you stop and say, “Hey, that actually tastes pretty good!”
Dad played a bit of Chopped himself and finally opened the salmon roe he bought himself for Christmas. Can’t say his egg tacos were particularly appetizing, but he was excited.
Broke my coffee fast for Wawa cold brew.
And then that evening I met Matt and his friend from school at Cheu Fishtown & nunu for some pre-movie bites. After seeing You Won’t Be Alone, we went to the Independence Beer Garden. Didn’t take any pics because 1) I was stressed out over parallel parking (it’s a personality trait at this point) and 2) I was stressed out thinking about the witch in the horror movie I’d just seen. It was a 10/10 night though. I heart Philly.
On Saturday, my lovely sister arrived bright and early! We spent the morning and early afternoon walking around the city and got brunch at Parc. Only picture I took was of the bread basket.
That afternoon, Maura and I did the only thing we ever do when we’re together: shop. Maura got these super cute Pepsi-Cola glasses at the thrift store, and I scored a pair of J.Crew sandals for $7.
On Sunday we were up bright and early not only because the Easter Bunny visited but because my parents decided to roast a hunk of pork this year instead of buying a cured ham like the rest of the gentiles in America do on Easter.
I was in charge of the brussel sprouts, which I tossed in EVOO and balsamic glaze and roasted at 400°F for 30 minutes (if you were wondering).
We also celebrated Dad’s birthday early, and I made him that Dolly Parton coconut cake that I wrote about in Friday’s letter. Twas a big hit.
Hope you and yours had a great weekend whether or not you were celebrating something. Pretty exciting week ahead; Matt and I have a reservation at DAME and phase one of one of my finals is due (less exciting). More on all of that next week!
The tuna looked amazing but I will hold the dill…not my favorite taste.
Joe CF exploring his Swedish roots with that salmon roe???? Uhhhh
