Bonus issue for you on this Sunday morning!!!
I had quite a busy week full of lots of food, so I thought I’d hop on here and fill you all in before I leave for my trip on Tuesday.
Green beans almondine
My family had pasta for dinner on Monday night, and I whipped up a fuss-free version of green beans almondine. Almost every recipe on the internet wanted me to blanch the beans before tossing them with garlic, butter, and lemon, but I did not have time for that — nor did I feel like cleaning another pot. So, I just threw everything into a skillet, and the rest is history.
Sauté 1 pound of green beans in a tablespoon of EVOO or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Roughly chop 1/2 cup of salted almonds and add to the green beans once beans begin to soften. When almonds are toasty, add two cloves of minced garlic to the pan and lower the heat just a little. Remove from heat when garlic is browned, but not burnt. Squeeze 1/2 a lemon over green beans.
Fridge organization
If you can’t tell by now, I am a Type A person. I’m not sure where it comes from though, and I’m only saying that because I’ve recently become the organizer of the house.
I love the look of an organized fridge, so on Tuesday I took it upon myself to master the systems of our family fridge in an effort to reduce our waste. Although my parents cringed at the sight of hot pink sticky notes next to their ketchup and mustard, I know that they’ll appreciate it. Like, c’mon, isn’t it satisfying?
Claire Saffitz’s Minty Lime Bars
In need of a perfect summery dessert? Make these bars from Dessert Person (recipe can also be found here!). My mom had a potluck at work this week and asked me to prepare a dessert for it, and this is what we came up with. Thanks to my mom’s coworkers for the compliments, but the magic really comes from the queen of dessert herself, Miss Claire.
As always, thanks for being here! Let me know what you think of a Sunday newsletter in the poll below.
Sunday is a very cool day to talk about food.
Sunday works best for me. I can’t wait to see the refrigerator the next time we are back in PA.
